Class Descriptions

BALLET

ballet classesPoise, posture, balance, and flexibility. Dancers of all styles benefit from regular training in this classical form. Primary students may take once weekly or twice; all other levels meet twice weekly. Classes can be taken individually as a pre-requisite to other forms. In these cases performance opportunity not guaranteed.

Ballet Acceleration does just what it says, it is accelerated strength training. Dancers meet two Saturdays a month with guest instructors. This is a required class for all pre-pointe and pointe students.

All pointe candidates must pass the Perfect Pointe System evaluation.

Primary Ballet 1 – Creative Movement 3 graduates and new 3rd - 6th graders

THE FOLLOWING BALLET CLASSES REQUIRE DIRECTOR CONSENT:
Primary Ballet 2 & 3 – meets once per week
Ballet Beginning-Teen/Adult- Non-performing class.  Meets once weekly.  Ideal fitness, support to tap dancers, and good fit for older new beginners wishing to pursue ballet studies.
Ballet Beginning – Class meets 2 times per week; 1 hour classes. Recommend also taking Ballet Acceleration 1
Ballet Intermediate 1 – Class meets 2 times per week; 1 hour and 15 minute classes. Ballet Acceleration 1 required.
Ballet Intermediate 2-3 – Class meets 2 times per week; requires 2nd class plus Acceleration 2
Ballet Intermediate 4 – Class meets 2 times per week; requires 2nd class plus Acceleration 2 & 3

CREATIVE MOVEMENT

creative movementElements of ballet, jazz, folk, and tumbling/tap are presented through fun teaching methods such as stories games and props. Emphasis will be in motor skill development, rhythm and spatial awareness.

Creative Movement Preschool – 3 1/2 years (birthday by 5/31) - 5 years not yet in Kindergarten. Class includes tumbling. Two time offerings; choose Monday or Wednesday.

Creative Movement Kindergarten – Class includes tumbling and tap in the spring.

Pre-Primary – 1st grade and new 2nd graders. This is a transitional class for Primary Ballet and Tap. Class instruction divided between tap and ballet foundation.

HIP HOP

hip hopEnergetic, freestyle form evolved from break and street dancing. Our classes are specifically geared to boys and new students, but all dancers are welcome.

Enrollment in a tap class is recommended.

Hip Hop 1 –  10-13 years.  Students 9 years will be considered on a wait list.

Hip Hop 2-  Teen & Young Adult or instructor consent.

 

JAZZ & LYRICAL

lyricalJazz and Lyrical are a natural progression for the ballet student. Jazz, an upbeat style of dance, stems from ballet. Pop music is most often used, but the style can also be theatrical. Lyrical is a challenging fusion of jazz and ballet. Choreography is often characterized by gripping emotion and/or storytelling. Lyrical students will be working at an intermediate or higher level of ballet.

THE FOLLOWING REQUIRES ENROLLMENT IN A MINIMUM OF ONE BALLET CLASS A WEEK:
Jazz Beginning 1
– Students must have 1 year of Ballet Beginning prior training.

THE FOLLOWING CLASSES REQUIRE INSTRUCTOR CONSENT:
Jazz 2
Jazz 3

Lyrical 1 – 12 years of age, intermediate level ballet. New beginning Lyrical will be offered in 2017/18 season.
Lyrical 2 – Previously enrolled in Lyrical 1
 

TAP

tap classesTap is an American style of dance making a huge resurgence in the dance world. Rhythmic skills are developed as tap feet become percussive instruments. Strength and control of the legs, ankles, and feet are increased.

Enrollment in 2nd Tap class, Hip Hop or Ballet for Adults is recommended.

Primary Tap 1 – Creative Movement 3 graduates and new 3rd-6th graders
Teen/Adult Intro to Tap

THE FOLLOWING TAP CLASSES REQUIRE INSTRUCTOR CONSENT:
These classes meet once weekly.  If interested in supplemental class, contact Miss Trish or the studio.

Tap Intermediate 3/Upper-   Meets twice weekly.

FITNESS CLASSES

Pilates
A user-friendly mat workout that promotes strength, flexibility, and balance, with an emphasis on bringing awareness to the core. Participants will execute a variety of safe and effective movements in a flowing class format. Pilates includes beginning to advanced exercises with attention to modification and alignment.

Yoga-Lates
Yoga-Lates is a workout that combines the best elements of yoga and pilates. A total body toner. The Pilates elements give you strength and muscle definition while the Yoga offers flexibility and relaxation.

Ballet Beginning-Teen/Adult- Non-performing class.  Meets once weekly.  Ideal fitness, support to tap dancers, and good fit for older new beginners.
