Class Descriptions    Summer Schedule      Fall Schedule

The following descriptions delineates our fall class break-downs.  Every August this page is updated for the next September-May studio season.

BALLET

ballet classesPoise, posture, balance, and flexibility. Dancers of all styles benefit from regular training in this classical form. Primary students may take once weekly or twice; all other levels meet twice weekly minimally. Classes can be taken individually as a pre-requisite to other forms. In these cases performance opportunity not guaranteed.

Ballet Acceleration does just what it says, it is accelerated strength training. Dancers meet on average, two Saturdays a month with guest instructors. Course work is focused on ballet, but may include guest teachers with supportive training such as Pilates, comtemporary dance, and mime.  This is a required class for all pre-pointe and pointe students.

All pointe candidates must pass the Perfect Pointe System evaluation.

Primary Ballet 1 – Pre- Primary graduates and new 3rd - 6th graders.

THE FOLLOWING BALLET CLASSES REQUIRE DIRECTOR CONSENT:
Primary Ballet 2 & 3 – meets once per week.  Options are available for these students to take ballet twice weekly.

Ballet 1–  Beginning level class meets 2 times per week; 1 hour classes.  Directors consent to particpate in Ballet Acceleration.
Ballet 2 
-   Advanced Beginning/Intermediate level class meets 2 times per week; 1 hour classes.  Assigned Ballet Acceleration 1 required.
Ballet 3/4 – Class meets 2 times per week; 1 hour 30 minute class.  Ballet Acceleration 2 required.
Ballet 5 – Class meets 3 times per week; 1 hour 30 minute class. Ballet Acceleration 2 required.

BALLET ACCELERATION
Ballet Acceleration 1
– Intermediate and instructor invite.
Ballet Acceleration 2 - Upper & assigned Intermediate.

BALLET ADULT
Ballet Adult 1 - First and second year students.  Introductory and beginning course.  Non-performing.  Meets once weekly.
Ballet Adult 2 - Intermediate level class geared to the adult dancer.  Meets once weekly.

 

CREATIVE MOVEMENT

creative movementElements of ballet, jazz, folk, and tumbling/tap are presented through fun teaching methods such as stories games and props. Emphasis will be in motor skill development, rhythm and spatial awareness.

Creative Movement Preschool – 3 1/2 years (birthday by 5/31) - 5 years not yet in Kindergarten. Class includes tumbling.  Curriculum alternates years for youngsters who start young.  Two time offerings; choose Monday or Thursday.

Creative Movement 2 – Class includes tumbling and tap in the spring.  Must be at minimally Kindergarten age and new 1st graders.

Creative Movement 3 – 1st grade (1 or more years dance training) and new 2nd graders. This is a transitional class for Primary Ballet and Tap. Class instruction divided between tap and ballet foundation.

HIP HOP

hip hopEnergetic, freestyle form evolved from break and street dancing. Our classes are specifically geared to boys and new students, but all dancers are welcome.

Enrollment in a tap class is recommended.

Hip Hop 1 –  Introductory.  10-13 years (exception: 9 years old/4th grade with three consecutive years dance training).
Hip Hop 2 - Beginning. Instructor Consent.
Hip Hop 3-  Intermediate. Instructor consent.

 

JAZZ & LYRICAL

lyricalJazz and Contemporary are a natural progression for the ballet student. Jazz, an upbeat style of dance, stems from ballet. Pop music is most often used, but the style can also be theatrical. Contemporary is a challenging fusion of jazz and ballet. Choreography is often characterized by gripping emotion and/or storytelling. Contemporary students will be working at an intermediate or higher level of ballet.

THE FOLLOWING REQUIRES ENROLLMENT IN A MINIMUM OF ONE BALLET CLASS A WEEK:
Jazz 1
 – Students must have 1 year of Ballet Beginning prior training or directors recommendation

THE FOLLOWING CLASSES REQUIRE INSTRUCTOR CONSENT:
Jazz 2  - Students previously enrolled in Jazz Beginning or instructor

Jazz 3  - Students previously enrolled in Jazz Intermediate or insturctor consent.
Jazz 4  - Students previously enrolled in Jazz Upper or instructor consent.

Contemporary 1 – Students previously enrolled in Lyrical 1 or instructor consent.
Contemporary 2 – Previously enrolled in Lyrical 2 or instructor consent
 

TAP

tap classesTap is an American style of dance making a huge resurgence in the dance world. Rhythmic skills are developed as tap feet become percussive instruments. Strength and control of the legs, ankles, and feet are increased.

Enrollment in 2nd Tap class, Hip Hop or Ballet for Adults is recommended.

Primary Tap 1Creative Movement 3 graduates and new 3rd-6th graders
THE FOLLOWING TAP CLASSES REQUIRE INSTRUCTOR CONSENT:

These classes meet once weekly.  If interested in supplemental class, contact Miss Trish or the studio.
Primary Tap 2
Primary Tap 3/Beginning  Previously enrolled Tap Beginning adults or Primary Tap 3.

Tap Intermediate 1  - Previously enrolled Tap Beginning youths.
Tap Intermediate 2- Youth - Previously enrolled Tap Intermediate youths.
Tap Intermediate 2- Adult  Previously enrolled Tap Intermediate adults.
Tap Upper Previously enrolled Tap Upper.

FITNESS CLASSES

Pilates
A user-friendly mat workout that promotes strength, flexibility, and balance, with an emphasis on bringing awareness to the core. Participants will execute a variety of safe and effective movements in a flowing class format. Pilates includes beginning to advanced exercises with attention to modification and alignment.

Yoga-Lates
Yoga-Lates is a workout that combines the best elements of yoga and pilates. A total body toner. The Pilates elements give you strength and muscle definition while the Yoga offers flexibility and relaxation.
