Class Descriptions    Summer Schedule      Fall Schedule

The following descriptions delineates our fall class break-downs.  Every August this page is updated for the next September-May studio season.

BALLET

ballet classesPoise, posture, balance, and flexibility. Dancers of all styles benefit from regular training in this classical form. Primary students may take once weekly or twice; all other levels meet twice weekly minimally. Classes can be taken individually as a pre-requisite to other forms. In these cases performance opportunity is not offered.

Ballet Acceleration does just what it says, it is accelerated strength training. Dancers meet on average, two Saturdays a month with guest instructors. Course work is focused on ballet, but may include guest teachers with supportive training such as Pilates, comtemporary dance, and mime.  This is a required class for all pre-pointe and pointe students.

All pointe candidates must pass the Perfect Pointe System evaluation.

Primary Ballet 1 – Pre- Primary graduates and new 3rd - 6th graders.

THE FOLLOWING BALLET CLASSES REQUIRE DIRECTOR CONSENT:
Primary Ballet 2 & 3 – meets once per week.  Options are available for these students to take ballet twice weekly.

Ballet 1–  2 times per week; 80 minute class. 
Ballet 2 
2 times per week; 80 minute class + twice monthly Saturday, Ballet Acceleration 1/2.   These students have option to prep for pointe.
Ballet 3/4 – Class meets 2 times per week; 90 minute class + twice monthly, Satruday, Ballet Acceleration 3/4.
Ballet 5 – Class meets 2xs times per week; 90 minute class + twice monthly, Saturday, Ballet Acceleration 5.

 

CREATIVE MOVEMENT

creative movementElements of ballet, jazz, folk, and tap are presented through fun teaching methods such as stories games and props. Emphasis will be in motor skill development, rhythm and spatial awareness.

Creative Movement 1 – 3 1/2 years (birthday by 5/31) - 4 years.  Curriculum alternates years for youngsters who start young. 

Creative Movement 2 – Second year MarLo 4 year olds and 5 year olds not yet in kindergarten. 

Creative Movement 3 – 5 year olds in Kindergarten.   Class may include tap in the spring.   May also be a good fit for new 1st graders.
Creative Movement 4-   First grade combo tap/ballet.   This is a transitional class for Primary Ballet and Tap. 

HIP HOP

hip hopEnergetic, freestyle form evolved from break and street dancing. Our classes are specifically geared to boys and new students, but all dancers are welcome.

Enrollment in a tap class is recommended.

Hip Hop 1 – Introductory.  9-13 years. 
Hip Hop 2 - Instructor Consent.
Hip Hop 3-  Instructor consent.

 

JAZZ & CONTEMPORARY

lyricalJazz and Contemporary are a natural progression for the ballet student. Jazz, an upbeat style of dance, stems from ballet. Pop music is most often used, but the style can also be theatrical. Contemporary is a challenging fusion of jazz and ballet. Choreography is often characterized by gripping emotion and/or storytelling. Contemporary students will be working at an intermediate or higher level of ballet.

Teen/Adult Contemporary Intro
Fushion of ballet, modern, & jazz.   No experience or requirements.

THE FOLLOWING REQUIRES ENROLLMENT IN A MINIMUM OF ONE BALLET CLASS A WEEK:
Jazz 1 
 – Students enrolled in Ballet 1 or 2 level.

THE FOLLOWING CLASSES REQUIRE INSTRUCTOR CONSENT:
Jazz 2/3  - Students previously enrolled in Jazz 2 or 3 or insturctor consent.
Jazz 5  - Students previously enrolled in Jazz 4 or instructor consent.

Contemporary 2 – Students previously enrolled in Contemporary 1.
Contemporary 5 – Previously enrolled or instructor consent.

 

 

TAP

tap classesTap is an American style of dance making a huge resurgence in the dance world. Rhythmic skills are developed as tap feet become percussive instruments. Strength and control of the legs, ankles, and feet are increased.

Enrollment in 2nd Tap class, Hip Hop or Ballet for Adults is recommended.

Teen/Adult Tap Intro- Upbeat rhythm and dance.  No experience necessary.

Teen/Adult Tap 1-   A beginning class with student have 1 year or more experience.  Or instructor consent.

THE FOLLOWING TAP CLASSES REQUIRE INSTRUCTOR CONSENT:

Primary Tap 2 - Previously enrolled in Primary Tap 1

Tap 1  Previously enrolled Primary Tap 1

The following classes by instructor approval or previously enrolled:
Tap 2  -Not available this year.
Tap 3  -Previously enrolled in Tap 3 or transfer student.
Tap 4  -Previously enrolled in Tap 4 or transfer student.
Tap 5  -Previously enrolled in Tap 5 or transfer student.

ADULT  FITNESS & DANCE CLASSES

Adult tap and contemporary classes are enrollment.  These classes build on the previous weeks experience.  

Teen/Adult Contemporary Intro
Fushion of ballet, modern, & jazz.   No experience necessary.

Teen/Adult Tap Intro
Upbeat rhythm and dance.  No experience necessary.

Teen/Adult Tap 1-   A beginning class with student have 1 year or more experience.  Or instructor consent.
 

Pilates and Yoga-Lates are drop-in or punch card classes.   No enrollment.

Pilates
A user-friendly mat class that promotes strength, flexibility, and balance, with an emphasis on bringing awareness to the core. Participants will execute a variety of safe and effective movements in a flowing class format. Pilates includes beginning to advanced exercises with attention to modification and alignment.

Yoga-Lates
Yoga-Lates is a workout that combines the best elements of yoga and pilates. A total body toner. The Pilates elements give you strength and muscle definition while the Yoga offers flexibility and relaxation.
